Portion of UTPB Campus to be Closed on Sunday for Training

Odessa Police Department Press Release:

The Odessa Police Department in cooperation with UTPB will be conducting an active shooter drill on their campus on Sunday, March 13.  This drill will involve officers from our department, UTPB, Odessa College, ECISD, and the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Odessa Fire Department.  We will be conducting this drill on the main portion of the campus in and around the Mesa building and all entry into that area will be prohibited except by authorized personnel.  The drill will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will continue throughout the day until 6:00 p.m.

Street access to the Mesa building and the buildings adjacent to it will be blocked and coned off to everyone other than drill participants.  This will include the Library, Gym, Student Activity Center and areas associated with those buildings.  The public is asked to not attempt to enter these restricted areas during this time.

This drill is an effort to train all our local law enforcement on the special tactics necessary for a situation of this type on a large campus area like UTPB.  We are very grateful for the cooperation of the UTPB administration and police department for their willingness and vision to loan their facilities to us for this special training opportunity which will make the city and UTPB a safer place for our community.
