Another Inmate Attempts to Escape from Ector County Detention Center

ODESSA - The Ector County Sheriff's Office has just announced that an inmate attempted to escape from the Ector County Detention Center early Sunday morning.

20-year-old Eddie Palma Jr. was found in the ceiling of the jail just one day after two inmates successfully broke out of the facility.

The Ector County Sheriff's Office says detention officers heard noises coming from one of the cells and immediately did a head count of the inmates assigned to that cell. Officers determined that Palma was missing and there was damage to his cell's ceiling.

Palma was later found between the ceiling and roof of the detention center within 90 minutes. The Sheriff's Office says Plama was never outside of the detention center.

Palma was being held on Attempted Capital Murder Charges. He will now face Attempted Escape charges.

This attempted breakout comes just one day after two inmates successfully managed to get of the jail. Rickey Lavell Taylor and Robert Dudley managed to break through the ceiling of a shower and gain access to the roof early Saturday morning.

The inmates were found at a Motel 6 just around the corner from the ECDC Saturday evening. Both Taylor and Dudley broke out of the Ector County Detention Center back in January as well.

Ector County Sheriff Mark Donaldson will be holding a press conference this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. NewsWest9's Victor Lopez will be there asking questions about Saturday's successful break out and this latest attempt. We will have full coverage tonight on NewsWest9 at 4, 5 and 6.
