Tom Tefertiller

StormTracker 9 Chief Meteorologist

Chief Meteorologist Tom Tefertiller was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. He received his B.S. Degree in Meteorology and Geography from Texas A&M University and went on to journalism school at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Tom began his professional TV career as a morning and noon meteorologist for WCBI-TV in Columbus, Mississippi. He then moved on to the Chief Meteorologist position at KAVU-TV in Victoria Texas. In 1994, Tom found his home at NewsWest 9 and is proud to be part of the best team of meteorologists in West Texas.

His awards include the Associated Press' "Best Weathercast" and the Midland Reporter Telegram "Best of the Best" award  numerous times.

Tom is constantly on the move and loves to visit school, civic groups and people all over our viewing area. And when he is not out and about, he likes to spend time at home with his new wife, Joan and their three dachshunds, Elvis, Merlin and Lancelot

He credits his parents and grandparents for his interest in weather from trips to weather stations to learning weather folklore and watching the sky with his mother. Their love and support have made him the weatherman he is today!
