Fire Contained in Martin County, County Road Closed Due to Thick Smoke

MARTIN COUNTY - A welder gets the blame for sparking a grassfire in Martin County.

The smoke from was so bad, part of a county road was shut down.

The fire sparked up near FM 846 and County Road 3901.

The area is still closed off to drivers right now.

Crews from Martin, Howard and Andrews County have the blaze contained but the smoke is still causing problems for drivers.

We're told sparks from a welder, working on a pipeline, spread to the grass.

He was given a ticket for starting the fire.

If you're in the area, you'll want to be careful driving through the thick smoke.

No word on how many acres were scorched.
