Concert Promoter Charged with Theft

MIDLAND - A local concert promoter has been arrested and charged with theft.

The Midland Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Medric Sydnor in relation to the Nicki Minaj concert he was promoting. That concert never happened because Sydnor had allegedly been working with a fraudulent booking agency.

NewsWest9 has been following this story since it first started back in January. Sydnor told NewsWest9 he had been duped by that agency and was going to give cash refunds to everyone who had purchased tickets.

Police say Sydnor intended to refund his customers, but was unable to pay in full and was charged with theft over $1,500 and under $20,000.

Sydnor issued dozens of checks as a refund, but almost all of them returned insufficient funds. The total amount in loss among numerous victims so far is over $10,000.

Sydnor turned himself in Monday and is being held on a $20,000 bond. Multiple victims have been contacted already by Detectives, but the White Collar Unit of the Midland Police Department is asking that any other victims come forward.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
