LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - A former inmate of a West Texas youth prison testified that the man accused of sexually abusing him tried to convince him their alleged sexual encounters were consensual.
The 26-year-old former inmate, who cried several times on the witness stand, testified for more than three hours Friday against John Paul Hernandez, the former principal at the school who is accused of sexually abusing teens and young men at the West Texas State School in Pyote in 2004 and 2005.
Two other former students of the school testified over the past two days.
Prosecutors allege Hernandez, 45, and another former school administrator gave inmates special treatment, candy and promises of financial aid before sexually abusing them in closets and classrooms at the state-run school, which closed last summer.
