ECTOR COUNTY - An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal accident involving a police officer.

Deputies in Ector County have arrested Saul Benivides Acosta, Jr. and charged him with evading in a motor vehicle causing death.

As you may recall, Acosta evaded officers back on January 1, which led officers to pursue the vehicle.

Ector County Deputy David Escudero collided with another vehicle while trying to respond to the emergency.

Two people died as a result of the collision, Anthony DeWayne Neel died at the scene and the passenger Brenda Sue Madrid died more than a week ago.

Escudero was transported to Medical Center Hospital in critical condition. The Ector County Sheriff's Office said Escudero has been released from the hospital and is currently continuing his rehab.

Bond has not yet been set for Saul Benivides Acosta, Jr.
