CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - Eddy County sheriff's officers say a body found in a freezer in a home near the southern New Mexico city of Carlsbad could be that of a man who has been missing since 1997.
The body was discovered Monday night by the daughter and son-in-law of Barbara Sharpe, who died in November. Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Zuniga says the body may be that of Sharpe's husband, James Sharpe.
Investigators say information uncovered so far indicates James Sharpe may have died from a health condition in 1997 when he would have been in his early 70s.
Zuniga says investigators found a note Barbara Sharpe's daughter identified as being in her mother's handwriting.
He says the woman was apologetic in the note but said she needed Sharpe's pension to live on.
