ODESSA - They're dialing up some changes at the Ector County School District. This week, they'll start to overhaul their phone system.
We're told that's because the current phone system is old and obsolete. They're going with a system called voice over Internet protocol.
It will run through the district's computer network.
Some of the pluses to the new system: parents can directly call teachers except when they're in class. The district will also be able to video conference, hold webinars, and online meetings. Clocks, school bells, and PA announcements will all be integrated and 911 services will be better.
The district will be able to send out mass messages during an emergency.
The new system means everyone is getting new phone numbers.
Over the next two weeks, the administration buildings and Austin Elementary will be switching over.
The high schools and junior highs are slated to change their numbers in February.
