WEST ODESSA - State troopers are still investigating a weekend wreck in West Odessa that killed one man and put two people in the hospital including an Ector County Sheriff's Deputy.

Deputy David Escudero is recovering from several broken bones, including his shoulder and leg.

We're told Escudero was responding to an emergency call at the time of the crash along University and Westridge.

Troopers say Escudero was heading down university in an unmarked patrol car, with his lights and siren on, when an SUV ran the stop sign at Westridge.

The patrol car slammed into the SUV and sent it rolling.

The driver of the SUV, 43-year old Anthony Neal, was ejected and died at the scene.

A passenger in that SUV, Brenda Madrid, was taken to Lubbock in critical condition with head injuries.
