Fire Burns 120 Acres in Howard County

HOWARD COUNTY - City of Big Spring and county volunteer fire fighters greeted the last day of 2010 early with a big grass fire just south of Big Spring.

About 120 acres burned before fire fighters with pumper trucks and bull dozers began containing the blaze. The fire was called in around 5:30 am and located just off of driver road on the Morgan Ranch immediately south of Big Spring.

No one was reported hurt, Although the grass fire at one time threatened a couple of structures, according to Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tommy Sullivan, who said no structural damage was reported Friday morning.

A burned out transformer bay was discovered and thought to have been what ignited the grass fire.
