BIG SPRING - Beginning this past Monday in 118th District Court in Big Spring, the first of what could be numerous civil suits stemming from the Alon Refinery explosion back in February 2008 got underway.

Alon settled with some individuals and property owners through insurance payments after the destructive event, but that did not end the claims that were subsequently filed through the court system.

This week it's Beverly Smithe and Ronnie and Debra Walker who are suing for property damages they say the received during the explosion over two and a half years ago.

Attorneys for the plaintiffs rested their case Wednesday. The case is being heard by a jury and is scheduled through Friday in 118th District Court.
