Man to Stand Trial for Fatal Hit and Run Accident

She risked her life to save some trick or treaters, now the Carlsbad man, police say is responsible for her death, will stand trial for the crime.

38-year-old Gilbert Melendrez is accused in a hit and run that killed 24-year-old Leora Dyess.

At the time, she was taking a group of children trick or treating.

Dyess was crossing the street with nine children, one of which was her daughter, when she was struck by Melendrez's vehicle.

Melendrez was arrested several days later.

No word yet on the trial date.
