SAN ANGELO - A Polygamist leader back in West Texas to face charges of bigamy and sexual assault.

Warren Jeffs made a court appearance in San Angelo on Wednesday.

He wasn't asked to enter a plea and told the judge he needed time to find a lawyer.

The 54-year-old was flown in on Tuesday night from Utah.

The charges against him stem from the state's raid on his polygamist compound, just outside of Eldorado back in 2008.

At that time, authorities seized more than 400 children and put them in state custody on suspicion of abuse.

Most were eventually returned.

Several sect members at the ranch have already been convicted of sexual abuse.
