Geena Martinez joined the NewsWest 9 Team in October 2010 and is currently the NewsWest 9 Weekend anchor and weekday reporter.

Geena was born and raised in Austin but she is no stranger to West Texas. Both of her parents grew up in Odessa before moving to Austin so she has numerous relatives all over the Midland/Odessa area. She couldn't be happier to be in the Permian Basin!

Before coming to NewsWest 9, Geena graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism. While earning her degree, Geena interned at the ABC and CBS affiliates in Lubbock where her passion for chasing news grew even stronger.

Geena has covered a variety of stories around West Texas and has been awarded by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters for her journalistic efforts.

In her free time, she likes hanging out with friends, working out, reading, cooking and of course, cheering on her Red Raiders! Geena misses her home back in Austin, but she feels very blessed and excited to be reporting in a familiar place.
