Oilfield Fire Sparks Up East of Monahans

Staff Report
NewsWest 9

For the second time in a year-and-a-half, a West Texas oil company will have to replace some equipment after an oil field fire.

The fire happened about 10 miles east of Monahans along Interstate 20, around 10:30 Monday morning.

According to West Odessa Volunteer Fire Chief Jimmy Ellis, two heater treaters went up in flames after a malfunction.

Work crews shut the fuel off and firefighters let the fire burn itself out, since the equipment was already destroyed.

Fire crews kept watch on the flames since the conditions are so dry.

The EOG site lost two heater treaters to a fire about 18 months ago, but that was much worse because the flames also scorched more five miles of land.

No one was hurt.
