Man Involved in Deadly Standoff in Odessa Identified

ODESSA - Continuing coverage on a deadly standoff in Odessa.

The man who caused the standoff has been identified as 39-year-old Michael Williams and according to authorities he has a criminal past.

The standoff happened on Thursday afternoon. Williams shot himself and died after keeping authorities at bay for more than two hours.

Deputies went to his house on Kermit Avenue to arrest him for a parole violation.

We're told when they drove up, Williams was in the yard. When Williams spotted deputies, he went into his house, and never came back out.

Deputies say he had a gun. T

he deputies called for backup, set up a perimeter and tried to talk him out.

The SWAT team later shot tear gas into the home and ordered Williams out.

When officials finally stormed inside, they found Williams with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Williams had been arrested before on burglary and theft charges.
