BIG SPRING - A new reliever route for Highway 87 is in the works for Big Spring. The goal is to get all trucks to go around Big Spring instead of bringing the traffic right through the city, but the Texas Department of Transportation wants to see what the public has to say about the plan before they approve it.

The Texas Department of Transportation has been working on this road for quite sometime and next week, they are hosting a public hearing for the residents to learn more about the route.

The hearing will be held at Dora Roberts Community Center. It's open to the public and officials will be talking about ways that the proposed highway will impact the community.

The project consists of construction of a four lane highway as a relief route for Highway 87 that would remove the traffic from going through big spring.

The exhibit will begin at 1:00 p.m. and registration will begin at 5:30p.m. The meeting will be at 6:30.

Residents will also be able to submit comments 10 days after the hearing date.
