Man Stabbed to Death at Hobbs Race Track

HOBBS - A man is dead after a stabbing at the Zia Park Race Track in Hobbs.

Hobbs police were called to the stables at Zia Park Tuesday evening around 5:30. Police say there was a confrontation between 34-year-old Julian Ortiz Torres and 47-year-old Amadeo Herrera.

Police say Herrera confronted Torres and a woman at the stables. Police say Torres stabbed Herrera repeatedly during a fight. Herrera died later at Lea Regional Hospital.

Torres and the female subject fled to Ruidoso where they were detained by Ruidoso Police Department. HPD Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for second degree murder. 

Torres was arrested by Ruidoso PD and is being held on a $500,000.00 bond.

     According to police, a black Ford F-150, being operated by Marcelo Olivas, 17, was traveling on private property when a 20-month-old boy ran out in front of the F-150 and was struck by it.
