Hobbs Teen Convicted of Murdering His Mother’s Boyfriend

HOBBS, N.M. - It's a guilty verdict for a Hobbs teenager, convicted of murdering his mother's boyfriend.

17-year-old Michael Evans was found guilty on Friday afternoon on both counts of second degree murder and tampering with evidence.

Police say Evans used a rifle to shoot and kill 56-year-old Darnell Mitchell back in march, following a domestic dispute.

Evans must undergo a diagnostic evaluation before the penalty phase of his trial.

We're told he's facing up to 20 years in prison.
