ODESSA - A criminal on the run is back in the Basin, but he was found a long way from home.

John Thomas Peterson is accused of shooting an elderly Odessa woman back in April.

By Monday, he was sitting in the Ector County Detention Center and it's all thanks to authorities down south.

The Galveston Sheriff's Office picked Peterson up in September.

While he was in custody, they realized there were multiple warrants for his arrest here in the Basin.

This weekend, Ector County Sheriff's Deputies traveled to Galveston and brought him back to Odessa.

The 45-year-old is now at the Ector County Detention Center with a $135,000 bond.

The Odessa Police Department says Peterson is the main suspect in the April 11 Odessa shooting that put an elderly woman in the hospital.

78-year-old Juanita Canady was shot while enjoying a Sunday meal with friends.

She was rushed to the hospital but was released the next day.

Peterson is also in custody on a number of county warrants.
