MIDLAND--Garage sale shoppers get ready to get your shopping on. The Texas Size Garage Sale will be back in Midland in a couple of weeks.
It's like the saying goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
"If you come in with a $20 bill, it's going to go a long way with things marked at $1, 50 cents, $3. You'll definitely find bargains," Development Director, Kobi Nix, said.
The Texas Size Garage Sale is the largest fundraiser for Meals on Wheels in Midland. Last year, they helped provide 50,000 hot meals, five days a week, for almost 500 elderly, homebound seniors.
"It takes lots of planning, almost all year to get ready. Donations start coming in as soon as the sale is over and volunteers start in the spring, sorting, pricing, organizing, getting it all ready," Nix explained.
If you know what you're looking for, chances are you'll find it at the Texas Size Garage Sale and all under one roof.
According to Nix, "The warehouse is 25,000 square feet and has 25 departments. Whatever you can imagine or come up with, you can probably find it at the Texas Size Garage Sale."
The popularity of the Texas Size Garage Sale is spreading like wildfire. People are coming from all over West Texas to snatch up a great deal. They're even coming from across state lines.
"I remember, one year, someone coming from Oklahoma. That just sticks out. It's all over Texas. They know about it. They make the drive because it's worth it," Nix commented.
You can't go wrong with the bargains you'll find, but Nix says none of this would be possible without the people who work tirelessly, in an un-air conditioned building, for hours at a time, to make it happen, "We could not do it without this group of volunteers. Each year, they are the reason behind our success. They are dedicated and committed to the Meals on Wheels program."
The garage sale runs from October 15th through the 17th.
If you're planning on going, Nix recommends you get ready now, just like they are, "Everybody, take your allowances out. I think everybody in the family can find a treasure. Of course, it benefits Meals on Wheels, so it really is a fundraiser where, like we say, everybody wins."
