Five Men Who Lead RCDC Riot Convicted

Staff Report
NewsWest 9

Five men in federal custody for a riot at the Reeves County Detention Center will spend even more time behind bars.

Last week, a jury convicted the men, all Mexican nationals, on three counts including conspiracy to riot at a federal facility.

The five day riot started on the last day of January in 2009 when prisoners set fire to one of the buildings at the federal prison in Pecos.

The prisoners were demanding better conditions and healthcare.

The five men are the first of 12 alleged ring-leaders indicted for the riot.

They'll be sentenced later this year and could spend at least ten more years behind bars.
