HOBBS, N.M. - A jockey is dead after a bizarre accident during a race in Hobbs over the weekend.

Zia Park officials say 44-year-old Mark Anthony Villa was killed Saturday when he fell off his horse after crossing the finish line during the seventh race.

We're told Villa actually tried to stand up after falling but was hit by another horse.

He was taken to the hospital where he died.

It's the first fatality at Zia Park since they opened in 2005.
