ODESSA - A mix up in terminology sent one Odessa Elementary School into lockdown on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 3 p.m., Odessa Police were chasing three suspects on foot in a neighborhood near the school and as a precaution the ECISD Police Department recommended the school go to shelter-in-place.
But by mistake, the school announced a lockdown for the campus.
ECISD officers arrived at Travis and cleared the lockdown about 20 minutes later.
ECISD Officials tell NewsWest 9, no students or staff were in any danger.
Shelter-in-place is used as a precautionary measure. Any students who are outside are moved back into the school and all the exterior doors are locked and monitored. A lockdown is used as an emergency response and implies a direct threat to the campus, which indicates a much more sever situation
