WEST ODESSA - For 22 hours an entire community was placed on lock-down as a man with a gun fired at authorities.
In the end, two deputies and a civilian were shot. The suspect, Victor White, eventually surrendered.
NewsWest 9 did some investigating to learn more about White's checkered past.
While many rumors are circling about the alleged shooter, discerning fact from fiction can be difficult.
The Ector County Sheriff's Office told NewsWest 9 they have dealt with White in the past. They say their last dealing with him was in the mid 90's.
We're still working to get all the details on why he was arrested.
Many people NewsWest 9 spoke to also claim White is a Vietnam veteran.
On Monday, NewsWest 9 called local veterans organizations to learn more.
The American Legion in Odessa says he's not in their records and the VA Hospital wasn't able to confirm his status.
NewsWest 9 has heard rumors that White is a member of a secessionist group but the Texas Nationalist Movement says he's not one of their members.
We've also contacted the Republic of Texas, but are waiting to hear from them.
NewsWest 9 is continuing it's investigation into White's past and will provide more information as it becomes available.
