Celebration Held to Kick Off Start of Deaf Awareness Weak

BIG SPRING - A big celebration on Sunday in Big Spring kicking off the start of Deaf Awareness Week.

Howard College and the Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf held their formal ceremony and a softball game at Comanche Trail Park.

Deaf Awareness Week promotes deaf culture and draws attention to their needs.

Big Spring Mayor Tommy Duncan gave a proclamation and members of the fire and police departments played a game of softball against the staff and students.

This coming Wednesday, they'll have American Sign Language story-telling at the Howard County Library and the Audiology department will offer discounted hearing evaluations.
