MIDLAND - An all new program aimed at taking un-used prescription drugs out of local residents' medicine cabinets kicks off later this month.
Organizers of the event, call it "Medication Cleanout." It's a medicine take-back initiative where trained professionals take unused or expired medicines from folks, and dispose of it, at no cost.
"They'll be disposed of properly, the bottles will be recycled, there's no harm no foul, it's free, doesn't cost anything, you just have to show up with your meds," Event Coordinator, Dale Seago, said.
Pharmacist Steve Rogers is also helping with the event, which will be held in the parking lot of his pharmacy, American Medical Pharmacy.
"Anything in a medicine cabinet that's not being used or is over six months old, needs to be gotten rid of," Rogers said. "Keep it out of the hands of children or anyone else that might just think they want to medicate themselves with something that might do them harm."
