ECISD School Shelters in Place

ODESSA - The Austin Montessori spent about ten minutes in shelter-in-place Tuesday morning after ECISD police officers heard what sounded like shotgun blasts in the neighborhood near the school.

The school went into shelter in place at 9:40 a.m. and was released from it at 9:51 a.m. ECISD says students and staff at the school handled the situation very well and were safe throughout the episode.

In a shelter in place all students are moved inside the building and the school's exterior doors are locked and monitored; no one is allowed in or out of the building. Inside, school goes on as usual.

ECISD officers at Odessa High School originally heard the possible shots and placed Austin into shelter-in-place right away. Officers checked the area but did not find the source.
