BIG SPRING - The Big Spring City Council Tuesday is scheduled to vote on the second reading of updated animal ordinances that passed on first reading a couple of weeks ago.

The changes include additional regulations for animal rescuers and commercial establishments that house numerous animals, as well as permitting and permit fees.

The updates also require a person with eight or more dogs to have a permanent custodian to reside at the home.  It also disallows the selling or giving away of animals on public or private property, such as the Wal Mart parking lot.

The animal control committee that advises city council on related issues is also abolished under these changes.
In other business, the council will vote to approve plans and specifications and allow city staff to go out for bids on the city park family aquatic center.
