MARTIN COUNTY - NewsWest9 has learned the names of two oil field workers who were burned after an explosion Thursday morning in Martin County.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office officially released the names Friday morning after the victim's families were notified. The two men have been identified as Fernando Zamora and Able Garcia.

The Sheriff's Office did not know what cities they were from.

The explosion happened on County Road 3900 around 8:00 a.m. at an Endeavor well near the Martin County and Howard County line.

The Martin County Emergency Management Coordinator tells NewsWest9 a crew from Basic Energy was preparing to do maintenance on the Excel pulling unit when gas escaped from the well and ignited. It is believed that light winds Thursday morning allowed the gas to settle to the ground before it ignited.

Both men were badly burned and are being treated at a Lubbock hospital. At last check, they were in critical condition.
