ODESSA - Fresh asphalt and high tech lights are signs that the Odessa Regional Medical Centers brand new helicopter pad is completed.

"Our helicopter pad will allow us to transport patients quickly, and while there are others in the area, ours is unique in the area that requires service," Levi Stone, with Odessa Regional Medical Center, said.

The $200,000 dollar helicopter pad took about two months to complete and ORMC staff workers say it's one of the best additions to the hospital.

"With our NICU here and all the important departments we have, it was very much needed and something we're very proud of," Jimmy Grimes, ORMC Director of Engineering, said.

Officials say the new helicopter pad will not only benefit the hospital, but the community as a whole.

"It gives us more efficient and safer way to transport patients on a quick manner. Traditionally we only had ambulance, now we have a greater service to provide for the community," Stone said.
