ECTOR COUNTY - We're learning more about the man who was shot by deputies after leading them on a high speed car chase in Ector County.

The man has been identified as 35-year-old Jose Luis Baeza.

Deputies tell NewsWest 9, he was intoxicated when he sped away from them.

They say the chase reached speeds of 100 miles per hour.

The chase ended at Loop 338, two miles south of the interstate.

Deputies cornered Baeza but we're told he backed into a deputy's patrol car trying to get away, and nearly ran over the deputy in the process.

That's when deputies fired at him.

Baeza is still in the hospital.

Because it's an officer involved shooting, the Texas Rangers are investigating.
