ODESSA-- A Permian high teacher, accused of having an improper relationship with a student, is out of a job.
Now the school district is one step closer to putting the whole situation behind them.
ECISD officials say, up to now, Robert Young hasn't made any comment on the allegations.
But one thing is for sure, his days on the payroll are numbered.
ECISD announced on Friday that they had reached an agreement with the former Permian High math teacher. He's turned in his resignation.
The school board voted to consider firing Young on July 20th, after it was brought to their attention, that he was having an improper relationship with an 18-year-old female student.
Young was notified of the board's decision and given time to appeal, if he wanted to.
School officials say he took the easy road, putting an end to this chapter of the saga, on September 13th.
"That's when it will be officially be closed, because that's when his resignation goes into effect. From the school district's standpoint, the benefit is, the resignation brings this to a close more quickly and with a lot less cost to the district," ECISD Communications Director, Mike Adkins, said.
Young will remain on paid administrative leave with the district until his resignation goes into effect.
It is not known if could lose his license or face any other kind of disciplinary action. Adkins says that will be up to the State Board of Educator Certification to decide.
