KERMIT - The City of Kermit is closer to having a new way to alert the town during an emergency.

All they need to do is sign the contracts.

The city council approved buying a new web based system to send out alerts all across town.

City Manager Sam Watson tells NewsWest 9, their radio controlled alarms are old and it would be too expensive to repair or replace them.

The new system is more versatile and can be customized

It can call certain parts of town or individual numbers.

The alerts will warn people about everything from severe weather emergencies to road closures.
