MIDLAND - For several years, the VFW has been dealing with a major leaking problem in most parts of the building and members say it's getting worse.
"It creates allergies, really it's a health hazard," Post Member, Sylvia Munoz, said.
"We really need to get that roof fixed, so we can work on the inside," Post Member, Mark Cooper, said.
Members say fixing the place up comes with a big price tag.
"If we can get the leaks to stop, we can work on AC. Just the roof itself, will cost about $30,000 and then AC is another $6,000," Cooper said.
That's why members of the VFW decided to try and raise the needed funds by planning a garage sale with items donated by the community.
"It's going to be a garage sale where kids items will be 4 for $1 and adults will have 2 for $1," Munoz said.
Members of the VFW hope that the community will step forward and help an organization start their long awaited renovation.
"We're hoping to get a good turn out. Kids will have plenty to do while the parents shop," Cooper said.
The garage sale will be this on August 20th and 21st at 7 AM on Veterans Airpark Lane in Midland. If you would like to donate items, you can drop them off at that location.
