ODESSA - A Permian math teacher's job is in jeopardy in the aftermath of his arrest for an improper relationship with a student.

The teaching contract for 41-year-old Robert Young is on the agenda for Tuesday's Ector County School Board meeting.

Young was arrested last month at his home in Midland.

Authorities say young had an on going relationship with an 18-year-old girl who graduated from Permian this year.

Young's contract for the upcoming school year was renewed back in March.

School officials say Tuesday's meeting is just the first step on what could be a long road to terminate Young's contract.

If the board agrees to accept the superintendent's recommendation to fire Young, the board must notify young in writing and he will have 15 days to respond.

Young can request a hearing, a process that could last three months.

If he does not, the board can go ahead and terminate him.
