NEAR AUSTIN - A Midland family is dealing with a devastating loss after a trip to Lake LBJ turns deadly.

23-year-old Karah Brooks was killed early Sunday morning while boating with friends on the Lake, northwest of Austin.

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, the accident happened just after midnight along the Colorado River arm of the Lake.

They tell NewsWest 9, the 21 foot long boat ran onto an outcropping of rocks in the Lake.

Game wardens aren't releasing any other details on the crash at this time.

They're still investigating.

Brooks was onboard with three other people from Midland, James Bradley Murdock, Mickala Murdock and Trey Harper.

The other three people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Monday night, Harper was released from an Austin hospital.

On Monday evening, the family finalized the funeral arrangements.

A family friend told NewsWest 9, they will hold a 6:30 visitation on Wednesday night at Nalley-Pickle Welch Funeral Home in Midland.

Then on Thursday morning, they'll have a graveside funeral for the family only at 10:00 a.m.

Later that afternoon, they'll hold a memorial at Stonegate Fellowship at 1:30p.m.

The family is asking well wishers to make a donation to the Stonegate Youth Ministry instead of sending flowers.

NewsWest 9 will keep tracking the details and bring you any updated information as we get it.
