Daryl Hunt Dead at 53

HOUSTON - He was considered a champion at multiple levels and found success on the football field in Oklahoma and in the NFL.

NewsWest 9 has confirmed Daryl Hunt, Member of the 1972 Permian High School Football State Champs, has died.

Members of his family say Daryl Hunt died Friday night in Houston.

He had been jogging, collapsed and was pronounced dead as a result of a massive heart attack.

Hunt played for Coach John Wilkins from 1972 to 1974 as a tight end and linebacker.

He was also the first African-American to play football at Permian High School.

He found success with the Oklahoma Sooners and played seven years with the Houston Oilers.

Funeral services will be in Odessa and held by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Daryl Hunt was 53 years old.
