A pricey trophy for a Hobbs man, he'll have to shell out $10,000 for bagging a trophy deer during the off-season.
27-year-old Bradley Smith was convicted of illegally killing two deer south of Hobbs, three years ago.
It was during the off season and he didn't have a license.
Smith challenged the conviction and civil judgment against him and lost.
A judge sided with the state and ruled one of the deer was worth $10,000.
That deer had 28-inch-wide antlers that were later scored at over 202 inches, qualifying the animal as a trophy deer.
