New Details Released in Connection with Deputy Involved Shooting

ODESSA - NewsWest 9 has learned the case involving a man who started a scuffle with an Ector County Deputy is being turned over as part of an ongoing drug investigation.

22-year-old Arnold Mendoza sits inside the Midland County Detention Center waiting to be turned over to the U.S. Marshals.

He's facing evading and resisting arrest and possession of controlled substance charges.

It all stems from what happened on Friday evening just before 7:00p.m.

Sgt. Robbie Strahan with the Ector County Sheriff's Office pulled over a driver at 16th and West County Road.

Strahan suspected the vehicle to be the same as one being sought by the DEA.

He talked with Mendoza and found out he had marijuana.

When Strahan tried to arrest Mendoza, the pair got into scuffle, Mendoza got back into is SUV and took off.
