CARLSBAD, NEW MEXICO - Two fires in the Carlsbad Caverns National Park are still going strong after sparking up Sunday from lightning.
So far, more than 1,000 acres has been scorched.
Fire officials are letting the blazes burn, because they are not threatening any structures or private land.
But the fires are still being monitored by helicopter.
As a precaution, park officials say some hiking trails have been closed off.
