Pecos Jury Convicts Tejano Singer in Two Separate Drug Cases

PECOS - An Odessa man, who is also the lead vocalist for the Tejano band Los Diamentes de Ojinaga, has been convicted in two separate drug smuggling cases.

27-year-old Jose Alfredo Porras-Muniz was convicted on Wednesday by a Pecos jury in connection with those cases.

Back in October of 2009, Porras-Muniz was indicted by a federal grand jury. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, then on March 11th, 2010, Porras-Muniz was indicted in a separate case on the same charges.

Officials say overall, Porras-Muniz smuggled over 3,000 pounds of marijuana into the U.S.

Porras-Muniz will be sentenced on June 21st.

He faces between ten years to life in prison.
