MIDLAND - A Midland man is now behind bars in connection to a disturbing case of child abuse.
18-year-old Joseph Mark Charles is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a two year old and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
He is the live-in boyfriend of the Midland mother accused of almost beating her 19-month old son to death.
Iris Rodriguez was arrested after sheriff's investigators got a call from a doctor at Westwood Hospital.
The doctor reported a child with a broken arm and bruises on his face and head.
Rodriguez claims the injuries happened when the boy fell down a flight of stairs a week ago.
She faces charges of attempted capital murder of a child under six and is being held on a $200,000
