Hobbs Murder Suspect Arrested in Albuquerque

A murder suspect wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Hobbs is now behind bars.

Hobbs Police tell NewsWest 9, 35-year-old Julian Jay Royal was arrested in Albuquerque by the U.S. Marshals Service SWIFT (Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team) on Sunday morning.

Some of the team members developed leads that led them to a Motel 6 near Carlisle and I-40 in Albuquerque.

Police found Royal at the Motel and Royal was arrested without incident.

Royal's girlfriend, Anacani Gonzales, who is also from Hobbs, was also arrested on state charges for Harboring, Aiding and Abetting a Felon.

Royal was arrested for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of Alton Granville at Forrest's Place in Hobbs back in October of 2009.

Royal faces murder, attempted murder, and several other charges.
