West Texas Justice of the Peace Arrested

VAN HORN - A West Texas Justice of the Peace has been arrested on federal mail fraud and money laundering charges.

Former Culberson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Oscar Espinoza Sr. was arrested Monday and charged with eight counts of mail fraud and five counts of money laundering.

A federal indictment alleges that starting in 2007, Espinoza cashed checks and money orders totaling more than $1,000. Those checks and money orders were received to pay fines in Culberson County.

Espinoza faces up to five years in prison on the mail fraud charge and up to 20 years in prison per each money laundering charge.
