ALPINE - An Alpine high school coach is under investigation after allegations he hit a student with a yard stick.

According to the father, his 13-year-old son was in a disciplinary alternative education program, when he was struck in the back by Coach Scotty Lewis, who was in charge of the class.

The boy was taken to the hospital and treated for bruises.

Alpine Superintendent Jose Cervantes tells NewsWest Nine, Lewis was placed on paid leave during the investigation.

The sheriff's office sent their report to Brewster County Attorney Steve Houston, who is reviewing the case.
