A step forward for a big solar project in southeast New Mexico.
The Sun Edison Company is looking at putting mega-watt solar plants in Lea and Eddy counties.
On Monday, they signed some agreements with the New Mexico Land Office which will give them two years to make sure the land is suitable for the projects.
During that time, they'll set up towers to check the sun's radiation and they'll runs tests on the soil.
The company hopes to have the solar plants set up and running by the end of 2011.
They will be capable of generating enough electricity to power more than 10,000 homes.
