Preliminary TAKS Test Results Released for Midland/Odessa Students

ODESSA - Early TAKS scores are in from the Midland and Odessa School Districts.

The Ector County School District released these numbers on Wednesday.

The amount of fifth graders who passed their math and reading test dropped just a little.

But more of them passed their tests this year than they did last year when they were in fourth grade.

Eighth grade numbers were a little better.

Nearly 90% of eighth graders passed their reading tests and 71% passed math, which is up a little from the previous year.

In Midland, school officials said 77% of fifth graders passed the math section, which was up 5% from last year and 78% of fifth graders passed the reading portion, which was one point better than last year.

For the eighth graders, the numbers were down slightly in the math section.

88% of eighth graders passed the math section, which is two percent lower than last year.

However, in the reading section, 72% of eighth graders passed, which was two percent higher than last year.
