Ray Brookins Found Guilty on All Counts

ODESSA - A former West Texas youth prison administrator will have to wait another day to find out his punishment after being found guilty of sexually abusing a teenage inmate more than five years ago.

Ray Edward Brookins was convicted of two counts each of having an improper sexual activity with a person in custody and having an improper relationship between an educator and student.

Brookins is a former assistant superintendent of the Texas Youth Commission's West Texas State School in Pyote. He's one of two former administrators from the school accused of sexually abusing teenage inmates. Former principal John Paul Hernandez awaits trial.

The sentencing phase began on Thursday afternoon, but will continue on Friday morning.
